Château de Surpierre:
How can we not mention the Château de Surpierre, which overlooks the Broye Valley.
”The Château de Surpierre, built between 1271 and 1316 by the Lords of Cossonay, has undergone many changes of ownership and several destructions over the centuries. It was ceded to Yblet de Challant in 1399 and then passed through various hands before being set on fire and pillaged in 1476 by the Fribourgers and the Berners after the Battle of Morat. After the Berne conquest of the Pays de Vaud in 1536, Surpierre was assigned to Fribourg and became a bailiwick. Rebuilt in 1544 after another fire, the château served as the residence of the bailiffs until 1798. Following the political upheavals of the late 18th century and the Mediation Act of 1803, Surpierre was definitively integrated into the canton of Fribourg and lost its status as a bailiwick. Sold to private owners in 1850, the château passed through several families before being acquired in 1951 by the Bürki family, who restored it for over fifty years and still own it today. The château is a private property.” (source: https://www.paroissesurpierre.ch)
